Tellurage 2010

Lizzy will be selling the posters on site at Telluride for $20. She will have some prints available here on the PhanArt blog before and after the shows, until supplies run out. The prints cost $30 including shipping and handling. You can order at paypal.com – send money to lizzylayne@gmail.com

Lizzy’s inspiration for the poster, from the artist herself: “I wanted to do a fun and modern version of the infamous Trey and Page Telluride ’88 photo. A throwback image with a bright color scheme inspired by the 1980′s ski culture that would have been flourishing during that era.” Lizzy had previously done was for Festival 8, a vintage horror movie poster style featuring the Big Black Furry Creature From Mars.

Big Black Furry

For Lizzy, as an artist, her skills are emphasized in printmaking, painting, graphic design and illustration. She noted, “with the Festival 8 poster, I put those trades towards Phish for the first time. I have been a fan and seeing shows for a long time now and meshing Phish and my art just felt like the natural thing to do. I was very pleased with the outcome of this poster and plan on making many more creations in the future. Hmm….Vegas, perhaps?”

Lizzy has agreed to donate a few posters to PhanArt for future auction for Mockingbird Foundation.

New PhanArtist Jami Dudenhoeffer’s Phish lithographs

Georgia raised Jami Dudenhoeffer started drawing portraits in the 9th grade. Once the ability to draw portraits was recognized, they became the main focus in her art career. Her first favorite medium at this time was a set of cheap drawing pencils.

Not long after this point, Jami’s love for Phish began. She has her older brother, Don, to thank for that. He would come home to visit and she would hear him playing Phish. He would tell the stories of going to the shows and festivals. and Jami was hooked. Within weeks she went and bought ‘A Live One’ and within a matter of a few months Jami’s sister, Lexi, took her to her first show, 8/06/1998 Lakewood Amphitheatre Atlanta, GA. Lexi and Jami loved it to say the least. Since then, Jami has caught 31 Phish shows including Big Cypress.

Mike Gordon

Jami studied art as much as possible through high school completing somewhere around 20 commissioned portraits before 2001. Jami won many awards but what she is most proud of is winning first place in her region two years in a row in the Regional Congressional Recognition Competition … part of the prize for first place was to have your art hanging in the capitol of the United States for a year. You can only imagine the excitement of winning that one.

After high school, Jami continued drawing portraits and catching Phish shows whenever possible. In 2003, Jami moved to Northern California. Soon, she found her love for India ink and began to use that for painting her portraits. The Mike Gordon portrait is a good example of what her ink wash portraits look like. While in the North West, she took a Watercolor class at Humboldt State and found her NEW favorite medium. Watercolor is what was used to paint this Phish portrait.

Phish lithograph

Also while in California that year, Jami decided to draw musicians so she could make prints of them to sell at shows and festivals to help her afford travel costs and tickets. It worked. The first portrait was of Bob Marley. Drawn in pencil, professionally printed, signed and numbered out of 500. There is still a small amount of these available. After that, Jami drew Frank Zappa, Lee “Scratch” Perry, a Native American named Morning Star, Mike Gordon, David Byrne, John Lennon and most recently, the Phish portrait. She has had good luck selling these around the country.

In 2006, Jami moved to Nashville to be with her sweet one. There she decided to intern under her brother, Don, to learn Graphic and Web Design. After commuting back and forth from Nashville to Atlanta for over a year Jami and her boyfriend Jeremy moved to Atlanta. Jami studied under Don for almost another solid year and now works part time doing freelance design.

Throughout her art career, Jami has held many titles,  Artist, Graphic Designer, Web Designer, Production Artist, Illustrator, Portrait Artist, Muralist, Watercolorist, etc. She is proud to ad ‘PhanArtist‘ to this extensive resume.

Jami Dudenhoeffer is still waiting for Phish to come play Lakewood again.

Arnaud Azoulay’s Pen and Ink Portraits

New PhanArtist Arnaud Azoulay is a first generation American, born and raised in California to parents of Moroccan and Welsh decent. Arnaud has been studying the arts since high school, including stage, acting and drawing.

Arnaud’s early style of creating intense odd shapes and fantasy characters was driven by a passion for music, anything from jazz to opera, classical to metal.

In the mid-90s, Arnaud made posters for concerts at legendary L.A. venues The Roxy and The Whisky on Sunset Blvd. in 2002 Arnaud moved to NYC and survived off his art for some time.  Recently, Arnaud has made a series of iconic abstract portraits, noting “If I can convey even the smallest expression of the passion that these artists have inspired in me, only then I can hope that I have done them justice.”

Arnaud currently lived in Paris, France with his wife and son. His name and work continue to gain great momentum as he makes his mark on the art world.  Since Phish’s reunion in 2009, one of his favorite and most influential bands, he has devoted much of his time to creating new art inspired by and in the subject of their work.  ”There are too many exciting Ideas I have in the works to even try and mention! But I know that a band such as Phish, and all of their fans… if anyone can, will truly appreciate my work and how much their music has done for me as a human being let alone an artist.”

In 1994, Arnaud went to his first Phish show (12/10/94) in Santa Monica CA. That same year when he started listening to Phish, he was improvising with pen on paper while they did what they do best.  Arnaud notes, ” Fans know how far their music can reach inside of us and our imagination and creativity just flow … just like my pen would do simultaneously and still does every day. Ninety Percent of my work is totally improvised, so naturally long intence jams jut work for me! Music is always the source of my art it drives my passion for life and the unknown and for me they are just what I need to remind me of the wonder and possibilities in this life.”

Curt Holzer, new PhanArtist and his great Miami Prints

I met Curt Holzer from Tallahassee, FL while driving from Orlando to Miami on 12/28. I stopped at a rest stop and noticed an email from him asking me about Mock Show. While I wasn’t the one to get in touch with about that, his poster blew my mind and I had to wake up Tim and Naomi to share the poster with them. I later caught up with him and picked up a couple of prints for our group. Needless to say, this was a chance encounter that paid off with a great print to bring home and some great art to share with the masses

This digital print measures 13 * 21 and is of a run of 250.  Only a dozen remain!

You can pick one up by sending $20 (which includes S+H) via Paypal to holzer.curt@gmail.com
