Alpine Valley prints and more from AJ Masthay

From AJ Masthay:

Hi all, and happy pre second leg of summer tour! Cant wait to hit the road next week and head out west for some epic venues. These will be my last releases for this summer, and Im very excited about each.

I was asked by Widespread Panic to create a piece for their Knoxville, TN shows that are just wrapping up tonight. The inspiration is the theatre itself with its elegant and ornate decorations and absolutely stunning ceiling medallion. These are 6 color linoleum block prints on Canson Edition paper stock. Photos dont do this one justice, they almost glow from the intense blues against the earth tones. I have a small allotment from the edition of 375 and they will be available on my website,  www.masthaystudios.com, Thursday July 29 at 12 noon EST.

Finally, my last installment for the second leg of summer tour, what I am affectionately calling “Giant Alpine Valley Horns“. This is also a 6 color linoleum block print but is on Rives Heavyweight paper stock, edition of 75. Imagery is fairly self explanatory, you can almost hear the “Ricola-a-a-a” or the wonderful theme to the Cliffhangers Price is Right game in the background. These also will be available at www.masthaystudios.com Thursday July 29 at 12 noon EST.

AJ Masthay UM/Galactic Red Rocks Print Release

From PhanArtist AJ Masthay:

So I mentioned in my last newsletter that I was working on my largest edition ever. Well, here it is! I was honored to be asked by the folks at Umphrey’s McGee and Galactic to create the prints for their gig this past weekend at Red Rocks, their first time headlining this incredibly historic venue.

The edition of 600 prints is a 5 color linoleum block print on white Stonehenge paper stock. I have a very small allotment of prints that will be available through my website today, Tuesday July 6 at 12 noon EST. On another note, I will be taking part in an upcoming art show based out of Berkeley, CA, entitled GREEK ART. If you’re heading out for the Phish shows, stop by the Vintage Berkeley gallery/wine shop August 7th from noon – 2pm for the opening reception.

Hope you had a happy and safe 4th of July weekend. See you on the second leg of summer tour! AJ

42 Degrees and PhanArt Poster show was a great success!

Thank you to all who came to the 42 Degrees and PhanArt present The Art of the Fans of Phish poster show on June 20th before the Sunday SPAC show. It was a great success with nearly 200 attendees, 20 artists, dozens of pieces of art available and some of the best glass in the Northeast. On behalf of everyone at 42 Degrees – Jon, Robin and Mike, and PhanArt Pete, we thank everyone for attending!

As long as Phish keeps playing SPAC, we hope to continue to make this a tradition for years to come!

SPAC and Summercamp posters from AJ Masthay

From AJ Masthay: Hi all, and happy post-Memorial Day Weekend to you, back to the grind, ugh…. Well, there is light at the end of that tunnel, summer tour is literally right around the corner!

I just got back yesterday from a spectacular weekend in Chillicothe, IL at this years Summercamp. I had an absolute blast seeing everyone, hearing some great music, and of course slinging some prints. A big thank you to Jason Kaczorowski and all involved in the Mock Camp exhibition.

Okay, enough about my love of SPAC…. I’ve also added the few Summercamp prints that I brought back from this weekend to my site. If you haven’t had a chance, check out the new process page I put together which chronicles the creation of this print from start to finish. This is basically the same process I use for all my work and gives a good insight into linoleum block printing.

You can see more of AJ’s work at the 42′ and PhanArt Poster show: The Art of the Fans of Phish on June 20th from 11am-3pm at 42′ Art Gallery in Glens Falls, a short 15 minute drive from Saratoga. See more info here

Both are available now on my site www.masthaystudios.com.Please feel free to contact me at aj@masthaystudios with any questions. Hope you enjoy and I’ll see ya on tour!

AJ Masthay’s Fantastic Hullaballo Print for NOLA Jazz Fest

From PhanArtist AJ Masthay: Hello and happy spring from Masthay Studios! The weather here in Connecticut has been absolutely spectacular over the past few days, everything is finally turning green and the flowers are blooming. I love Spring, although it makes it really difficult to hunker down in the studio…

I’m writing to let you know about an exciting event that Ill be taking part in at the end of the month. FANTASTIC HULLABALOO is two nights of music and arts taking place in the Big Easy during Jazz Fest.

Along with myself, additional artists on display will include Stanley Mouse, Jeff Wood, Scramble Campbell, Isadora Bullock, Ian Millard, and many more. A big thanks to Tripp at Taboot Art for putting the whole event together. Details including dates, times, bands, and a full artist lost can be found at www.fantastichullabaloo.com

I’ve also created a new edition of 100 prints that will be released at the event. Each is a 7 seven color linoleum block print on 13″ x 23″ Stonehenge paper stock.

Finally, I hope everyone has a great summer tour. Im already well into my first edition for it and plan at least a few new pieces to be released in the next few months.
