What is Phanart?
Well, ask yourself this: Through all those Phish shows you
went to over the years, the fans always had something to sell
right? Legally I mean. The shirts, the posters, the stickers,
etc. Those characters at Deer Creek wearing the Piper/Puma
shirt, or the license plates that said DVDSKY or TREY420.
With Coventry still fresh in many of our hearts and minds,
I realized that never again would all these people be together
again in the same place. So I got to thinking, get it all
together in one place before some things get packed away that
only the grandkids would find years down the road. This is
why I have come up with Phanart. A collection, if you will,
of all the things fans sold over the years.
SO YOU ARE MAKING A WEBSITE OF THIS ART?
No, this website is just to help spread the word.
The basic idea behind PHANART is to create a book of the art
which we all shared in over the years. Those fan posters,
the Simpsons' T-shirts, The Antelope stickers, all of it will
be captured in this book. The website is just the way
I decided to get things started.
Wait, you want me to send you my stuff I got at
the on tour over the years?
No, not at all. I knew someone would ask that. What I am
looking for is High-Quality Digital Pictures of the items
to be scanned and emailed, or just regular mailed to me. Not
the items themselves.
How can I help out??
First, tell your friends. Anyone you ever hit off Phish
shows with - tell them, that is a start. Then, go through
your stuff, find stickers, shirts, any random stuff that you
know you got at a show, take a HQ digi-pic and send it in.
if you cant do that, or scan it, contact me and we can work
something out.
Are you going to turn around and take the design
on my shirt/poster/sticker and resell it?
NO. Not my intention. Anything sent to me gets stored away
on the hard drive or in a folder. Putting a collection together
takes a lot of effort, as I have already learned. A picture
of your favorite shirt or Its all Hood sticker will be saved
until the final product is ready to be made. None of these
pictures will be used to re-market items that were sold long
ago.
What is the 'final product' you speak of going to
be?
Ok, the overall idea is to encapsulate the 21 years of fans
and their art in a "Well Laid-Out Picture Book",
with proceeds going to charity.
OK, I scanned the pictures. Where do I send them?
phanart@gmail.com
What if I cannot scan the pictures and email them
to you?
If you can't do that, please email me at the above address
and I will give you an address to send them to. Once word
gets out and lots of people are looking to mail photos in,
I will set up a P.O. Box
Do you want pictures of my Kabuki Pollock?
You have a Kabuki? Really?
Yes I do.
Well, good for you. I'm jealous. But no, this is not a book
of ANYTHING Phish has EVER endorsed or sold over the years.
The IT porta-potty shirt? NO. The cups that were at Big Cypress?
NO. Anything you bought from Dry goods? NO.
Why not?
For 2 reasons: One, this book is called PHANART: The Art
of the Fans of Phish. And secondly, I don't want Phish coming
after me with a lawsuit. Simple as that.
Can you be more specific as you what you are looking
for us to send pictures of to you?
Sure I can. Go to where you keep all your Phish stuff from
over the years. For example:
Original Fan posters: 101 phish songs, or from any
specific show/run
Any bumper sticker: This car climbed Mt. Icculus
or Jimmy Hit on Me or I WENT to IT or:
Shirts: The Sneakin Sally Nut Bag Ale shirt that
everyone in the world bought summer 2000, Simpsons, etc
Pictures of Phish-related License plates: i.e DVDSKY,
TREYPHAN, TELA1
I am looking for anything like that, plus miscellaneous stuff
that does not fit these categories.
What about pictures of me and my friends wearing
phish stuff?
I will say yes now, but do not be upset if it doesn't make
the final cut. I am not sure about pictures of individuals.
Something to approach later
Wait, I have more questions!!!
Of course, any comments or ideas any of you come up with
I will entertain, and I look forward to any and all insight
from you, the fans, because aside from the music, it is you/us
that made the 21 years of Phish so unique.
Now send us photo's of your stuff, and thanks in advance!
