We are happy to announce that the foreward for Phanart: The Art of the Fans of Phish is written by none other than Richard Gehr, co-author of The Phish Book!
May 8
Phanart: The Art of the Fans of Phish is complete! With more than 1600 pieces of Phish fan created art, over 30 essays, and numerous trips down memory lane through 400 full-color pages, the book stands to be one of the most unique and original creations that exhibits the talents of the Phish fan community.
This incredibly collaborative effort is ready to share with Phish fans everywhere. We believe there is a large audience for this book, and we want Phish fans and art lovers to be able to receive copies of the first printing of the book. That being said, we need to gauge your interest and we would like you to sign-up to confirm your interest in purchasing this book when it becomes available. No payment is required now -- we are simply interested in estimating the volume of a first print run. The only information required is your first and last name, the state you live in, and your email address. All those who sign-up will receive a hand-numbered and signed 1st edition of the book.
This book has over 400 full-color pages, and the price range for Phanart: The Art of the Fans of Phish is estimated to be between $50 and $75. This price range is based upon the initial list pricing for two books that are similar in nature, topic, size, and material. This is an estimate; it could be more, it could be less.
Phanart: The Art of the Fans of Phish is not for profit. All proceeds benefit The Mockingbird Foundation for music education. www.mbird.org
Thank you for your support, your contributions to the book, and your interest in maintaining the vitality of the Phish community!
March 22
Well Phans, after 3 years of collecting
over two decades of Phan Art, interviewing numerous members
of the Phish community, working through many ups and many
downs, Phanart: The Art of the Fans of Phish, for all practical
matters, is done!
The book itself has been painstakingly
assembled in earnest over the past 4 months using Indesign2.
The final product is just now going through it's final review
by it's creators before being shown to Phish and their management.
Before years end we hope to choose a publisher to help bring
the book to the masses.
We decided early on that we wanted
a fully realized book, in hand, to show various publishers
as opposed to simply explaining our idea for the book. We
now have that physical hard copy to shop around to publishers.
Over the coming weeks and months we will be updating
the site, letting you know what publishers we are meeting
with, and the results of those meetings. And when all is said
and done, we'll be posting the on sale date!
When the book was conceived, shortly
after Coventry, a 3 year timeline was laid out. Within 6 months
it was clear that 4 years would be more realistic to get such
a project completed. We did not want to rush such an endeavor
for the sake of meeting a pre determined deadline. Instead,
quality was chosen in place of speed. And here we are, Fall
2007 and its looking good that the book will be out by years
end 2008, as planned since early 2005.
What’s in the book? Well,
chances are, if you sent something in it's in the book. We
received just over 1,540 different items. At last count we're
using 95% of that in the book in some form or another. All
together there are 70 Sections, 441 Pages, numerous articles,
interviews with members of the Phish community, and one fantastic
trip down memory lane! We know Phish phans everywhere will
be pleased with the final product.
As a reminder, all net proceeds from
the sale of Phanart: The Art of the Fans of Phish, will go
directly to The Mockingbird Foundation (www.mbird.org)
for music education. Phanart is not for profit, and no contributor
(or creator) in any form was paid or received compensation
for his or her inclusion in the book. We are proud to say
this, and greatly thank all who submitted their own, or others
art for the book. Creating the book was a labor of love, and
the final results show.
Stay tuned to www.Phanart.net for more updates on the book.
