To date, Screens ‘n’ Suds’ beer and art fundraising activities in Richmond, Chicago, and beyond have raised over $100,000 for charities including National MS Society, Faison School for Autism, Virginia Association of Free Clinics, Gallery5, Young Artists of Virginia, and others, and in 2014 Screens ‘n’ Suds was chosen as one of three finalists in the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ National Philanthropy Award.

Screens ‘n’ Suds was started at Richmond’s Capital Ale House in 2009 as a way for Brian Gearing and Ric Hersh to finally get the poster show they wanted. Screens ‘n’ Suds has since collaborated with six Virginia breweries and over 50 participating artists from around the country, many of whom have created posters for national music artists including The Black Keys, Phish, My Morning Jacket, and many more.

The Screens ‘n’ Suds 2014 print series continues Sam Verrill’s mission to marry beautiful art to great causes. Seven years ago, he launched Screens ‘N’ Spokes, an art show and bike team, to benefit the Greater Delaware Valley chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. To-date, over 150 prints have been produced between the Spokes and Suds series, and including events, the team has raised over $200,000 for the MS 2014 continues Screens ‘n’ Suds Small Batch Brew Series, started in 2012 with a collaboration between Hardywood Park Brewery and Richmond screen print artists Itty Bitty Press, which yielded the inaugural brew, Quadrawine.

This year’s series features seven beers from six Virginia breweries: Hardywood Park, Three Brothers, Strangeways, O’Connor Brewing, and a collaboration between Champion Brewing and Lickinghole Creek. All the Screens ‘n’ Suds beers will be on draft at the event, as well as for sale in limited release bottles with label art designed by Screens ‘n’ Suds artists.

The event will also feature concert posters, art prints, wearables, and other merchandise, as well as the 2014 Screens ‘n’ Suds Print Series, featuring artists including Plastic Flame Press, Stronge Designs, Itty Bitty Press, Bizhan Khodabandeh, Ashley Phipps, Christian Leaf, Subject Matter Studios, Nicole Gomez, and more to be announced.

Screens ‘n’ Suds began in 2009 as a way for Brian Gearing and Ric Hersh to finally get the poster show they wanted in Richmond, VA.  When Capital Ale House was chosen as the venue for the event, it made sense to invite a few breweries to join in and slake the thirst of the art lovers in attendance.  Since that inaugural event, Screens ‘n’ Suds has raised over $100,000 for MS Society and local charities, and its list of partnering breweries and artists has grown from 15 to over 50, coming from all over the country, from Berkeley, CA to Omaha, NE, to just across the river on Manchester Island.

Last year, Screens ‘n’ Suds collaborated with Richmond’s Hardywood Park and Itty Bitty Press to create Quadrawine, its inaugural small batch beer. This year’s list of collaborators has expanded to five, and plans are in the works for bigger and better projects as Screens ‘n’ Suds pushes forward into the second half of its first decade of celebrating beer and art for charity.

The Screens ‘n’ Suds 2013 Series continues Sam Verrill‘s mission to marry beautiful art to great causes.  Five years ago, he launched Screens ‘N’ Spokes, an art show and bike team, to benefit the Greater Delaware Valley chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  To-date, over 130 prints have been produced between the Spokes and Suds series, and including events, the team has raised over $160,000 for the MS Society.  In 2008 and 2009, he worked with the Independents Coffee Cooperative of Philadelphia to curate the Beans ‘N’ Screens show to benefit the fair-trade Cooperativa San Fernando.

AJ Masthay Screens and Suds poster “Brew Master” on sale NOW

From AJ Masthay:

I love beer. So when a great organization like Screens & Suds asks if I’d be willing to create a beer related print for their fundraiser, it’s a no-brainer. This one goes out to all the artists who prefer to use hops and barley as their inks, and clean, crisp water as their canvas – to the BrewMasters!

These five color linoleum block prints are from an edition of 120 and are printed on archival quality Canson Edition paper stock. A portion of the edition has already sold out at last weekend’s Screens and Suds event in Virginia. My allotment of prints will be available on MasthayStudios.com this Wednesday, November 9th, at 12 noon EST. Is it too early to mention what a great holiday gift these would make?… Yes, yes it is, but I said it anyway didn’t I… As always feel free to email me at info@masthaystudios.com with any questions, concerns, comments, etc. Oh and by the way, I have begun work on my first ever quadtych (4 prints that work together to form a giant freakin image). I’ll let you guess what event its for….. stay tuned for more info!
