Phish.net shirts to benefit Mockingbird

Phish.net is opening its online store for business today with its first offerings, new 2011 Phish.net T shirts — for the first time since the old 1994 version sold out years ago! Three different styles of T shirts are available for ordering at the Phish.net online store.

(Old School 2011 Phish.net Tshirt, designed by Eric Wyman of the Phish.net site team $20)

The Phish.net storefront and fulfillment is being handled by Port Merch, an online merchandise marketing company for many independent artists and bands, including Bonnie Raitt and the Blind Boys of Alabama. We are thrilled to be partnering with Port Merch to insure that orders to the Phish.net store will be professionally fulfilled and shipped quickly by a convenient online “mail order” storefront, as people have come to expect.

(The Mockingbird Foundation volunteers are equally pleased not to have to be storing merch in their basements and running to the post office as we did in the days of “blanks and postage”, but to have Chip Taylor and the pros incuding our own Bryan Rodgers @Planbee at Port Merch handling that for us!).

In the coming month, Phish.net will be adding more clothing and hard goods items to the Phish.net store, including embroidered logo hats, stickers, pins, beverage “coozies”, patches, license plate frames and other items. Stay tuned to Phish.net for information on when they will be available.

Soon, the online store will be reachable through a link “STORE” in the Phish.net navigation bar and a subdomain alias “store.phish.net” as soon as it can be programmed into the site source code. The store can also be reached directly through the Port Merch site

Any profits from the sale of Phish.net merchandise items will support the costs of maintaining the Phish.net fan site and to the programs supporting music education for children done by Phish.net’s operator, the fan supported charity, The Mockingbird Foundation.

Adam Davidoff Bethel Woods(tock) Coins

From Adam Davidoff and Phish Coins comes the first (and only) Bethel Woods(tock) Coin:

For one side of the Bethel Woods(tock) Coin I designed a tribute to the original Woodstock logo with the acoustic guitar and dove, but worked in a Phishy spin. Instead of an acoustic guitar, I depicted as accurately as possible the new “Ocedoc” guitar currently being used by Trey. Instead of a dove, I placed the Famous Mockingbird on the neck of the guitar.

As a spin-off from the original phrase “An Aquarian Exposition in White Lake, NY” I changed it to read “A Piscean Exposition in Bethel, NY” and did so for two reasons. First, we are not actually at the dawning of the Age of Aquarius as some seemed to think in the mid 1960s, we are still in the Age of Pisces. I am not an astrology kind of guy… there is actually a scientific element to this. Secondly, the symbol for Pisces is a fish, so I couldn’t resist the double entendre. Instead of using the original “2 Days of Peace and Music” phrase, I changed it to read “3 More Days of Peace & Music” since that is exactly what will go down this upcoming Memorial Day Weekend!

As for the flip side of the Bethel Woods(tock) Coin, I created a scene that blends Memorial Day history with a dose of Gamehendge imagery and symbolism. The Rhombus in the center of the design is a tribute to the Tony Smith’s “New Piece” sculpture which can be found “somewhere” in New Jersey, in Trey’s old stomping grounds. The Rhombus serves as a tribute to the ultimate Memorial Day symbol in my eyes, The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. I am calling this Rhombus “The Tomb of the Unknown Lizard” and the scene portrays a lizard rejoicing in the overthrow of King Wilson, as symbolized by the memorial wreath of poppies featuring the historic Crest of Prussia in the middle. The poppy flower has been tied to Memorial Day since the early 1900s when women used to sell them to raise money for decorating the tombs of fallen soldiers on Memorial Day. This holiday in fact was originally called “Decorating Day” for this reason.

The Rhombus was a sacred site at which the Lizards would pray to Icculus. The sky above has the clouds parting with the sun between, representing The Divided Sky, and the two “Gateways to Gamehendge” are represented by the Nitrous Oxide tank with the word “Kung” written on it. The Helping Friendly Book lies on the ground, having been retrieved by the Famous Mockingbird, and the tree to the right of the Rhombus is a Weeping Fikus, commonly known as the “Tree of Knowledge” which is mentioned in Colonel Forbin’s Ascent.

I hope you like the design, as it is littered with Phish symbolism! As all Phish Coins are, the Bethel Woods(tock) Coin is antique silver in color, 1.75″ in diameter, has a reeded edge (like a quarter) and is sequentially numbered from 1-300.

The cost for each coins with shipping are 1=$24, 2=$45, 3=$66, 4=$87, 5=$108
Poker Chip prices w/ shipping are: 1=$13, 2=$24, 3=$35, 4=$46, 5=$57

This Week in PhanArt History: Vegas 2004

New from PhanArt in 2011 is our weekly Friday Feature: This Week in PhanArt History. Each piece of art we share is from days of Phish in the past, typically from the 1.0 and 2.0 eras, something of note that fans of all ages can appreciate that is featured in the book PhanArt: The Art of the Fans of Phish, with some commentary on the piece by PhanArt Pete. If there is a piece of art or genre of PhanArt you would like to see, leave a suggestion in the comments below.

Submitted by Frank and Christine Cortazzo, this sticker takes the iconic ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ and changed it to ‘We Come for Fabulous Phish’

Created by Not Pollock, these prints are given out free to a lucky few in the lots. As the saying goes, ‘If its not free, its not Not Pollock’

By Jason Lees, This Joker poster has a playing card design with reflections on both side of the joker in his 3-coned cap, hoisting a martini with his purple humpback whake and showing his cards: 15, 16, 17, the April 2004 dates.

Isadora Bullock‘s Elvis poster has The King riding The Famous Mockingbird into outer space (where many of us would have blasted off to, had the shows not been a barrel of meh) holding The Helping Friendly Book.

Troy Alexander, Canadian artist extraordinaire and Eh-List Phish fan made numerous amazing posters of this caliber in the Phish 2.0 era. The detail on the upside down faces, mandalas in the center and vivid coloring made this an easy collectors item in the Spring of 2004

Wookstock Poster by Jambandistan People’s Creative Cooperative

From the Jambandistan People’s Creative Cooperative #420 comes their first poster featured on PhanArt.  The group includes many of the same people behind the original meatstick.org website, the Phish-phriendly political Internet radio station ‘Progressive Blend Radio’, and the DC-based jam band Liquid Lobster. The JPCC420 has been creating phan shirts and posters for its own internal consumption for almost two decades, but the Woodstock/Bethel poster is the first time they’ve offered one of their creations to the public and they are delighted to be able to do so via Phanart.

The posters are 11″x17″ full color offset printing and commemorates the classic original Woodstock poster updated for our favorite band’s run at the Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center. The main goal for Levin in designing this poster was to try to stay as true to the original image as possible. While there were a few tweaks to the text, overall layout was kept the same as the original Woodstock poster.

The left column that listed the acts at the original Woodstock under the title “With” has the same list, only now under the heading “Without” since it is unlikely any of them will be showing up unannounced (but who knows?). The middle column, which on the original poster listed information about the event now contains the text of the now-infamous “Message from Trey“. The poster also includes the dates of Phish’s shows at Bethel and some fine-print surprises that Michael thinks phans will enjoy!

Each poster costs $10 with $5 shipping and handling.
