I met Curt Holzer from Tallahassee, FL while driving from Orlando to Miami on 12/28. I stopped at a rest stop and noticed an email from him asking me about Mock Show. While I wasn’t the one to get in touch with about that, his poster blew my mind and I had to wake up Tim and Naomi to share the poster with them. I later caught up with him and picked up a couple of prints for our group. Needless to say, this was a chance encounter that paid off with a great print to bring home and some great art to share with the masses
This digital print measures 13 * 21 and is of a run of 250. Only a dozen remain!
You can pick one up by sending $20 (which includes S+H) via Paypal to holzer.curt@gmail.com
We’re back from Miami and had a fantastic time soaking up the sun and catching some fantastic concerts. Mock Show was a huge success thanks to the hard work of people like Jason Kaczorowski, Jamie Huntsman, and the numerous artists and volunteers involved. Thank you to all!
I was also the proud recipient of two “Golden Tubes” at the first ever Posties Awards. My Miami Heat piece took the “best NYE print” category and I also won the “best Mock Show” category. Congrats to all the other postie winners and thank you to all that voted for my work.
After some sorting, I have a very limited number of prints from 6 editions that will be available on my site this Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 12 Noon EST.
Included editions are Miami Heat NYE, Mock Show Flamingo, Mock Show Epidemic, the MSG Atlas, Albany Terror Gnome and finally my official print for the December 30th Umphrey’s McGee show at the Aragon.
Please feel free to contact me at aj@masthaystudios with any questions. Hope you have a joyous, prosperous and safe 2010.
Just breaking on to the poster art scene this year, Denver artist Franky Scaglione, rediscovers the fusion of his longtime connection to the Phish community and his passion for creating art. Scaglione has contributed shirt designs and stickers to the lot scene for years, but has recently found his niche in fine art screenprints.
Franky Scaglione's Magic City Binge
Scaglione completed his BFA in Media Arts at State University of New York (Fredonia) in 2002, and escaped the bitter cold of western NY for the mountains and sunshine of Colorful Colorado. Shortly after the move, he found himself teaching art in an inner-city middle school; it was the perfect gig, allowing him to feel out the teaching world while keeping the summers off for Phish tour. Within three years, Scaglione earned his MA at the University of Denver and began teaching high school art. This is what he loves and is still doing today.
Teaching drawing, painting, and printmaking allows Scaglione to constantly research and experiment with new media and approaches. Six years into his teaching career, he finds himself more inspired than ever before.
Look for his new release, Magic City Binge, to accompany Phish’s four-night run in Miami. Stop by his booth at Mock Show: EPIC NYE to say hello and check out his work.
Magic City Binge is a limited edition screen print run of 175 on 100lb French Pop-Tone, black licorice (18″ x 24″). Please contact Franky at paisleyblue@gmail.com if you are interested in pre-ordering a print. The price is $37 including shipping/handling and reinforced poster tube to anywhere in the US/Canada. Additionally, prints will be available for $25 at my booth at the Mock Show.
John was also commissioned for a series of sculptures, sponsored by Gibson Guitars, that were featured throughout Miami in early 2009 and later auctioned off for charity.
Java is also a poster artist and creates unique show posters and images of iconic musicians. A former Deadhead, John also helps to put together the annual ‘Jerry Daze‘, a Tribute to Jerry Garcia, a Live Jam Band event thatgoes strong every year & always raises cash for a good cause.
All the Posters seen below are $20 and includes shipping within the U.S.

Driven by the immediacy of the live music environment, Blake attempts to channel the energy, emotion and feeling of the moment, highlighting an interconnectivity of seemingly unrelated or unrelatable objects. Described by fans as “Dali and a graffiti artist in a blender” and “Picasso on acid,” Blake creates largely abstract, yet formative works that are often highly psychedelic in nature.
Having exhibited in NYC, New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania and at festivals all across the country, Blake feels blessed and thankful for the adventure, friends and music that the life as a live artist has provided. He hopes to share his art with as many people as possible and for many years to come.
