Maria DiChiappari’s NYE Poster, a new artist on the PhanArt Blog

Maria is a Boston native now residing in the foothills of Boulder, Colorado. She is a passionate artist interested in all forms of art. Currently her main concentration is in graphic design, specializing in Photoshop and Illustrator. Maria also enjoys pen and ink drawing as well as painting with acrylic and oil on canvas. The greatest inspirations to her work are music, nature, relationships, culture, dreams, spirituality, and love.

Since Phish has gotten back together, Maria has been spending as much time as possible catching their shows and creating poster art for the shows she attends. You can usually find Maria selling posters outside the venue, before and after the show. It’s such a great way to meet people and share her art and love of Phish with other fans.

Maria DiChiappari’s debut poster for PHISH at Madison Square Garden in NYC on New Years Eve 2010 is printed on 11″x17″ card stock and created in a limited edition of only 100 prints. Each poster is signed and numbered by the artist.

This Week in PhanArt History- Geoffe Stucke Hampton 2003

New from PhanArt in 2011 is our weekly Friday Feature: This Week in PhanArt History. Each piece of art we share is from days of Phish in the past, typically from the 1.0 and 2.0 eras, something of note that fans of all ages can appreciate that is featured in the book PhanArt: The Art of the Fans of Phish, with some commentary on the piece by PhanArt Pete.

This poster was made by Cape Cod area artist Geoffe Stucke for the hiatus-ending shows in January of 2003 in Hampton, Virginia. Taking into account multiple aspects of the weekend, Geoffe created 10 x 23 poster in the style of a ticket stub, replete with the indented edges from those machines that spit out the tickets at the movie theater. Hampton Coliseum is represented in a unique way, with an atom and/or the universe behind his take on the facade. A play button is located in the O of Hampton, noting that it was time to play. Yet there is no reference to the band playing, a creative effort made by many artists to avoid using the word ‘Phish‘ and falling into legal issues as a result.

New feature for 2011 on the PhanArt Blog – This Week in PhanArt History

New from PhanArt in 2011 is our weekly Friday Feature: This Week in PhanArt History. Each piece of art we share is from days of Phish in the past, typically from the 1.0 and 2.0 eras, something of note that fans of all ages can appreciate that is featured in the book PhanArt: The Art of the Fans of Phish, with some commentary on the piece by PhanArt Pete.

For our first piece, we go back to 1999, 11 years ago for the most epic Phish New Years Eve ever. ‘Java’ John Goldacker made this poster for the 12/30-31/99 shows on the Big Cypress Indian Reservation in Florida.

Small fishes adorn the written Phish at the top, with a fish dotting the i. The banner of Big Cypress frames the Cypress Tree that features the silhouettes of the band members very carefully drawn into the branches and leaves. Behind the tree are the sun and the moon, highlighting and symbolizing the day->night nature of the shows and the midnight to sunrise set of the band to ring in the new millennium.

Curt Holzer’s ‘Phirst of the Year’

Newcomer Curt Holzer’s NYE print this year builds off his futuristic animated style from Miami 2009. This print measures 38″x13″ and is in an edition of 100 signed and numbered prints. Each print costs $30 with $5 shipping while each additional poster costs $10 extra.

The piece is a digital illustration of NYC as seen through Curt’s eyes with yet another “Big Ass Fish” for a focal point.  Subway cars, Brooklyn Bridge, Empire State Building, MSG, Times Square, Chrysler Building, and The Statue of Liberty can all be found within the borders.  A few song references can be found on kiosks, in space, and there is a familiar red haired man on the jumbotron in Times Square.  All art comes from Curt’s sketchbook renderings of ideas he had after his first visit to NYC a little over two months ago. The finishing digital touches and the hours he has put into this project have been countless, and for Curt, the reward is priceless, and he hopes the Phans simply enjoy!

Lizzy Layne’s Fuck Your Face

The origin of the poster, from Lizzy Layne: This poster started with me wanting to do a poster for MSG and when thinking of concepts. I have been really inspired by typography-heavy design lately. The term “Fuck your Face“, along with the song that has been brought out of the vault lately seemed like a perfect fit for this style poster. In the end, I decided it is a broad enough concept that it doesn’t necessarily need to be a poster that is specific to New Year’s, but can just be a solid piece of PhanArt.

The poster is a 15 x 22″ 3 color silkscreen and costs $30 plus $10 for packaging and shipping fees.

Bruce Horan’s Rhythm Guide and Victorine

Two new prints from PhanArtist Bruce Horan are here just in time for the holidays. Bruce has brought many great prints in the past He continues to create and develop amazing pieces of art and these two prints are no exception.

The first, Rhythm Guide, is a 2 color screenprint on olive green recycled Speckletone cover stock. This print measures 13 x 19.25 inches and costs $20 + 8 shipping. Pick one up here

About Rhythm Guide
The tiger represents leadership, strength and nobility. Here we see the tiger as a Native American Chief, a position of leadership and guidance. The tiger is now an animal guide who shares its power and wisdom with us, helping us by bringing harmony and balance into our
lives. Our tiger totes an electric guitar, focusing his powers into the rhythm and musical harmonies around us, allowing us to find our own melodies within the balanced energy that surrounds. Also, he shreds.

Victorine a 4 color screen print on French Speckletone recycled stock, 22 x 15.5, full bleed and deckled edges. Limited edition of 25. Cost is $30, with $10 shipping. Pick one up here

Victorine was Edouard Manet’s favorite model. Here we see her sitting in her famous and provocative pose from Le Dejeuner Sur L’herbe, but within a new surrounding. We have a confusing and somewhat surreal scene in which Victorine appears to be leaning upon an abstracted double-decker bus which now conforms into a new dimensional plane. From behind, a sun-crowned giraffe approaches possibly with a message, while a city scape appears from behind Van Gogh’s olive trees. The giraffe represents communication and vision into the future. Perhaps the giraffe will explain to Victorine the meaning behind her voyage into a new modern world where all objects and images undergo redefinition and a new interpretation.
