Classic Rock ‘n’ Roll Art & Photography Exhibition featuring the works of “Java” John Goldacker July 16th – October 9th, 2010. King Center of the Performing Arts (Lobby), Melbourne, FL

Brevard County Artist, Photographer, and Radio Personality “Java” John Goldacker will have his first ever Gallery Showing of his original Rock & Roll posters, and concert photos.

The Classic Rock ‘n’ Roll Art & Photography Exhibition will coincide with this season’s run of the popular CLASSIC ALBUMS LIVE series at The King Center.

“Java” John is an in demand local Graphic Artist/Illustrator. A designer of music related posters and CD covers, Festival posters and T-Shirts, and more. John illustrated the book “River Dragon” about the local legend Annie the Dragon, and he’s also been featured in PhotoShop Creative Magazine, and had his posters reproduced in the 2009 books – “PhanArt: The Art of Fans of Phish“; and “HOPE: A Collection of Obama Posters and Prints”.

In 2008 & 09, he was also selected along with 35 artists (in each city) to be a part of the Orlando and Miami Gibson “GUITARTOWNS“, having painted original artwork on two 10ft tall Gibson guitar replicas.

The 70 guitars were donated by the artists, then auctioned, and raised approximately $400,000.00 for local charities!

Last December, Brevard’s Beachside Resident magazine ran a three page article on John’s artwork, and had him design a Holiday themed cover featuring Bob Dylan.

Currently, John is working on illustrating a book written for children of all ages, called “Bud The Spud”. Written by local writer Adam Bryn Tritt, the book will go into national publication in the near future!

Ghetto Lot Kids Shirts and Stickers

From Ed Reibsamen, Ghetto Lot Kids shirts and stickers are here. These have been around for a while, and on Sunday at Merriweather Post Pavilion we finally got to meet and chat. Here on the blog, find some hysterical and poignant creations from Ed and his friend Scarlett.

The story, in Ed’s words: My ex- girlfriend Scarlett was on a barge back from Wakarusa in 2004 with her friend Colleen. It was nearly 4 in the morning and they were semi-delirious from lack of sleep and  talking and what not, when one of them was commenting on how strange it is that its all our friends from Richmond, VA (our hometown) are the “ghetto kids on lot“. Colleen laughed and said “ha ha the ghetto lot kids” and Scarlett immediately made the connection to the 80s trend of Garbage Pail Kids.

Scarlett called me up a few hours later and I immediately recognized what a brilliant idea it was. We started riffing on different possible characters, some roughly based on people we knew, some tour archetypes. I started making sketches the same day and continued over the next few months. I learned Adobe Illustrator for making the art and a friend at a screen printing shop was printed 5 to start. A website was made and via MySpace, they went viral.

From MySpace, I became associated with a band from Olympia, Washington, Z Kamp, and did their album cover artwork Ghetto Lot Kids style. In 2008 we started making stickers and had more shirts printed. More are coming in a few weeks: “Wraps a lot Randal“, “Floor Space Phil“, “Insty Head Fred“, and “Wookie Wendy“.

Ryan DeClerck CMAC Prints

Having been to 11 of the 18 shows this summer, we saw a great deal of great fan posters, which you will see in coming weeks here on the PhanArt Blog. At Canandaigua, we came across this really great print which may be the only fan print from that show (we looked, we only found this, if you made one, email us).

Ryan DeClerck and Jennifer Green made this print for the 6/29/10 Canandaigua, NY CMAC Phish show. It is printed digitally on 100 lb. paper, signed and numbered out of 100 by the collaborative artists Ryan DeClerck and Jennifer Green.

AJ Masthay UM/Galactic Red Rocks Print Release

From PhanArtist AJ Masthay:

So I mentioned in my last newsletter that I was working on my largest edition ever. Well, here it is! I was honored to be asked by the folks at Umphrey’s McGee and Galactic to create the prints for their gig this past weekend at Red Rocks, their first time headlining this incredibly historic venue.

The edition of 600 prints is a 5 color linoleum block print on white Stonehenge paper stock. I have a very small allotment of prints that will be available through my website today, Tuesday July 6 at 12 noon EST. On another note, I will be taking part in an upcoming art show based out of Berkeley, CA, entitled GREEK ART. If you’re heading out for the Phish shows, stop by the Vintage Berkeley gallery/wine shop August 7th from noon – 2pm for the opening reception.

The Art of Lauren Domsky

Lauren Domsky is a starving artist and recent college graduate who has recently taken up painting within the last couple months. She came up with several ideas for paintings, each one based on Phish lyrics. Harry Hood was the first one created as a birthday present for her brother (Harry Hood is his favorite Phish song).

Lauren attended the Hershey show and both Camden shows and sold her prints in the lots.  Some positive sales led to more art being created upon the return trip home.

After completing Harry Hood, she began asking her brother’s friends what their favorite phish songs were.  The Slave to the Traffic Light painting is dedicated to Mr. Michael Nesson, an avid Phish fan and concert goer.

Lauren now has nine Phish paintings and each one has been made into prints. She has always been inspired by Phish’s unique lyrics and has finally found a way to express the songs and lyrics she has adored for so many years.

Water in the Sky is Lauren’s most recent painting which was inspired by the first night of Camden, 6/24/10. When she heard Trey singing the words on stage, Lauren suddenly had a vision of lips sighing beneath a landscape of clouds and drops of rain. The next day she immediately began working on the painting.

As of now, she has made 5 prints of each of the 9 paintings so supplies are limited! The prints cost $20.00 each. They measure 11” x 18”.

42 Degrees and PhanArt Poster show was a great success!

Thank you to all who came to the 42 Degrees and PhanArt present The Art of the Fans of Phish poster show on June 20th before the Sunday SPAC show. It was a great success with nearly 200 attendees, 20 artists, dozens of pieces of art available and some of the best glass in the Northeast. On behalf of everyone at 42 Degrees – Jon, Robin and Mike, and PhanArt Pete, we thank everyone for attending!

As long as Phish keeps playing SPAC, we hope to continue to make this a tradition for years to come!
