PhanArt, donations made to Mockingbird Foundation, and some disclosure

In the interest of keeping fans up to date on what’s brewing with PhanArt, we have dedicated this blog post to explaining how the donations to The Mockingbird Foundation take place, who donates what, and answer any questions you may have via the comments section below.

PhanArt raised $1314.24 over the course of 2009, starting at the book launch party on 2/7/09, and ending 12/30/09 at Mock Show Miami. That’s a ton of money, but where did it all come from? We have found a way to provide as much clarity as to where this money comes from, en route to its final destination, The Mockingbird Foundation.

Halley and PhanArt Pete doing some intense research c. 2006

First things first, PhanArt does not accept monetary donations of any nature. We have never taken any cash in hand, aside from at Mock Shows and PhanArt held events, and that money is sent off to The Mockingbird Foundation immediately. PhanArt is not a 501 (c)(3), nor do we make an effort to become one.  Instead, we direct fans to donate directly to The Mockingbird Foundation via paypal or mbird.org The only donations PhanArt collects are those made by artists and fans and blog contributors  in the form of shirts, posters, stickers, etc…, as well as from profits from the sale of PhanArt: The Art of the Fans of Phish as each printing of books sells out.

Every two months , we will update what we have collected, and what we have donated from the sale of these items through auctions on ebay. We do not keep what is donated. Stickers and other items that were given to us during the collection period for the making of PhanArt: The Art of the Fans of Phish were given away with sales of the book. We will continue this practice.

Good advice^^^

How we came up with the list. Well, very simply, we kept track of all donations made to Mockingbird through various methods – direct donations via PhanArtists, ebay auctions, paypal receipts from blog artists, and any form of proof that money went from artist/fan to Mockingbird. Again, no money is donated to PhanArt, or given to us at any point, aside from at poster shows. That amount is relayed to members of The Mockingbird Foundation, and they receive a check in the mail from PhanArt shortly thereafter. Case in point, we raised $40 at Mock Show on 12/30/09 from sales of donated items alone. We mentioned this to George and Elayne who had the Mockingbird booth next to us at Mock Show. They knew to expect it being sent, and we furthermore notified Ellis Godard, executive director of The Mockingbird Foundation, as has been done since earlier this year.

The PhanArt Blog shows the collective impact of Phish fans through the art created in the Phish community. We at PhanArt look forward to 2010 and continuing a great Phish tradition!

Review of 2009 and Our Goal for 2010

Since February of 2009 when the launch part for PhanArt: The Art of the Fans of Phish took place at Revolution Hall in Troy, NY, a grand total of $1314.24 has been raised through sales of the book PhanArt: The Art of the Fans of Phish, donations made by PhanArtists, sales online of donated items, as well as auctions and donations made via the PhanArt blog. We are overwhelmed and impressed by this amount of money generated and are incredibly grateful to the Phish community for their support of the Mockingbird Foundation and music education, as well as the support for PhanArt and the effort to archive the art of the fans of Phish.

That being said, we would like to make the goal for this year to round out the total to $5000 by the end of 2010. $5000 is the amount of a FULL grant given to a school or organization by the Mockingbird Foundation for music education, and it is definitely within our reach. That means we look to donate a total of $3685.76 over the course of this year. We already have dozens of artists taking advantage of the PhanArt Blog and donating to Mockingbird through those means, and as their art is purchased and auctions are held, donations are accrued and sent directly to The Mockingbird Foundation. With your help, we can make the PhanArt Blog a great success and independent fundraiser for the Mockingbird Foundation.

Spread the word to your friends and phriends, buy items from PhanArt and PhanArtists, and keep your eye out for new offers and deals all the time on great lot art from PhanArt!  Stay updated on random deals via Twitter and on our Facebook Page and Group

Happy New Year and here’s to a prosperous 2010!

Donations from the Artists featured on the PhanArt Blog to The Mockingbird Foundation

The purpose of the PhanArt Blog is not only to showcase the newest lot art and to provide a forum for phans and artists alike to sell their wares free of charge, it is also a venue to raise money for The Mockingbird Foundation, which raises funds for music education for children nationwide.

The first few months of the PhanArt Blog have been a great success, and we are happy to share with you the donations artists that have taken part in the site have made to The Mockingbird Foundation and/or PhanArt for future fundraising for The Mockingbird Foundation.

Since this is the first time we are sharing with the Phish public the amount each artist has donated as a result of taking part in the blog, and in the holiday spirit, we at PhanArt have offered to MATCH all monetary donations made by the artists.

Since this is the holiday season and the first time PhanArt has done a Holiday Bundle, we at PhanArt are going to MATCH the $91 donated by the artists, for a total of $182! Add to the that our Holiday Bundle of phanart which went for $72, and thats $254 raised for The Mockingbird Foundation since November 1st!

Extreme gratitude to the artists and participants of the blog the past couple months. We have had a tremendous response, with more than 30,000 hits on the site since we started tracking in late November. Raising money for The Mockingbird Foundation has been amazing this year, and we still have Mock Show in Miami to go to, and the second printing of PhanArt to finish selling before we add more to the blog!

Thank you to one and all!  If you want to be part of the blog, contact Pete at phanart@gmail.com for more info.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy New Years to all!

Mock Show venue change

As you may have heard on the news recently, an investigation by county and state officials revealed that our original location – The EPIC Hotel – had recently installed a water filter powerful enough to remove chlorine from its city-supplied water – a move that unfortunately encouraged unbeknownst bacterial growth. Scientists have discovered an outbreak of a rare pneumonia causing bacteria known as Legionnaire’s Disease has been seemingly linked to the Epic Hotel.

While we believe that the hotel will re-open before Mock Show, our first and foremost concern is the safety and well being of our attendees and exhibitors. We acted immediately to procure a new location to assure the satisfaction of our guests.

Subsequently please note that the Mock Show will now take place at the Hyatt Regency Miami.

Hyatt Regency Miami
400 Southeast 2nd Avenue
Miami, FL 33131

Times and Date will remain the same.

The Mock Show will be held in the Jasmine and Hibiscus ballrooms located on the Terrace Level of the Hyatt Regency Miami hotel.

There is a complimentary tram located in the Hyatt Regency that will get you to the American Airlines Arena, or, you if you want to soak in that beautiful Florida sun, you are still within walking distance of the venue.

We have taken great strides to minimize the inconvience to all Mock Show patrons. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at info@amockshow.com.

– The Heavy Pets will perform a special full band acoustic set at Mock Show
– Our new location allows for easier access to the FREE tram that will get you to the American Airlines Arena.

New PhanArtist Vinny Naro’s 8 poster

Vinny Naro has some impressive art from one of the best weekends of the year – 8.  His posters have an amazing amount of detail and style. These giclee prints are ink-jet printer based, but with a finer color detail beyond the typical CMYK, and the archival quality to the print is apparent as a result.

Vinny has giclees available of his 8 print.  There are 10 reserved for sale on PhanArt Blog, and $5 of each sale will benefit The Mockingbird Foundation.

You can pick this print  through paypal.  Each poster costs $40 and can be bought by sending money to wpo82@yahoo.com

Antelope NeckTubes, by Simon Ossitt

Presenting a very heady, very sensible piece of Phish clothing we full endorse over here at PhanArt: The Antelope NeckTube!

First things first – What the heck is a NeckTube? Well, it’s a durable microfiber polyester/lycra pullover that fits loosely around your neck that you can pull up to cover up the lower part of your face and neck (hence the name, necktube).  A softshell necktube, it is ideal for when you are biking, hiking, walking, snowmobiling, or pretty much any other activity where you want to keep cold air from rushing down your neck!

An added bonus, Antelope AND Tube; that makes for some tasty cowfunk jams. A strong selling point.

Neck tube
Antelope NeckTube

NeckTubes are machine washable, durable, will not fade and retains their cylindrical shape with no stretching! Created from a ‘technical fabric’, it keep moisture away from skin and is highly breathable, as well as being wind-resistant and water repellent.  They were designed and printed digitally in England by Simon Ossitt, a Phish fan from the other side of the pond (that’s British slang for ocean)

These qualities make it ideal for use in windy and wet conditions where you might need protection for your face or neck but are working hard and also need that extra comfort from the breathability, making it great for biking and trekking, but very adaptable…. these were designed by motorcyclists after all.

Another cool thing about the fabric is that it wont fuzz as fast as some of the competition due to the durability of the weave. They can also be worn as a skullcap or headband.

A donation will be made to MBird with every purchase.

Cost:$23.49 which includes shipping
