Headcount Postcards from Pollock, TRiPP, Masthay and more!

This summer, HeadCount is teaming with Phish and artists to promote voter registration. All you have to do to get one of these limited edition postcards is sign a pledge on the back, then HeadCount will mail you the card in November to remind you of your commitment to vote. Jim Pollock explained to HeadCount executive director Andy Bernstein in a new interview. “I kind of wanted to do the positives so they’re riding bikes; they’re not riding cars. But it’s still a race. It’s the red against the blue jerseys. I’m pretty up front about my political beliefs, but I like to see a good race. I’d like to see both parties thrive and to have more parity.”

Along with Pollock’s postcard are unique designs from David Welker, AJ Masthay, TRIPP, Gwen AP, Jamie Hunstsman and tattoo artist Luke Wessman. Each postcards will be part of a single run, and as a bonus, if you sign the pledge, you are automatically entered in a drawing for a free trip on Jam Cruise or one of Cloud 9’s other music destination trips!

Limited amount of AJ Masthay’s Bridge Session prints available

A limited number of prints from this past weekend’s Bridge Session event featuring Bob Weir and members of the National are now available through my webstore at www.masthaystudios.com. Each of the six color linoleum block prints, featuring my take on the Grateful Dead’s iconic Steal Your Face, is signed and numbered from the edition of 400. Also available is the single Watercolor Variant. This print is numbered 1/1, and was created using traditional monotype techniques giving an overall “watercolor” effect to the image, truly one of a kind. Visit www.masthaystudios.com for more info on each of these prints.

Some info about HeadCount:  HeadCount is a 501(c)3 nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to registering voters and inspiring participation in democracy through the power of music.  More information can be found at www.HeadCount.org.

Some info about Mock Show:  Mock Show is a nomadic art exhibition staged around Phish’s multi-night runs which allows both fan artists and professional established artists associated with the band to showcase their talents to art enthusiasts while raising money for local and national charities.

Mock Show venue change

As you may have heard on the news recently, an investigation by county and state officials revealed that our original location – The EPIC Hotel – had recently installed a water filter powerful enough to remove chlorine from its city-supplied water – a move that unfortunately encouraged unbeknownst bacterial growth. Scientists have discovered an outbreak of a rare pneumonia causing bacteria known as Legionnaire’s Disease has been seemingly linked to the Epic Hotel.

While we believe that the hotel will re-open before Mock Show, our first and foremost concern is the safety and well being of our attendees and exhibitors. We acted immediately to procure a new location to assure the satisfaction of our guests.

Subsequently please note that the Mock Show will now take place at the Hyatt Regency Miami.

Hyatt Regency Miami
400 Southeast 2nd Avenue
Miami, FL 33131

Times and Date will remain the same.

The Mock Show will be held in the Jasmine and Hibiscus ballrooms located on the Terrace Level of the Hyatt Regency Miami hotel.

There is a complimentary tram located in the Hyatt Regency that will get you to the American Airlines Arena, or, you if you want to soak in that beautiful Florida sun, you are still within walking distance of the venue.

We have taken great strides to minimize the inconvience to all Mock Show patrons. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at info@amockshow.com.

– The Heavy Pets will perform a special full band acoustic set at Mock Show
– Our new location allows for easier access to the FREE tram that will get you to the American Airlines Arena.

“MOCK SHOW” POSTER CONVENTION IN MIAMI TO SUPPORT HEADCOUNT

PhanArt: The Art of the Fans of Phish is nominated in the non-poster category. VOTE FOR PhanArt!!!!!!

Sold-out concerts will not be the only attraction for Phish fans descending on Miami as 2009 draws to a close. Mock Show: EPIC NYE, a poster exhibition at the Epic Hotel on Wednesday, Dec. 30th, will feature the best poster art paying homage to Phish while raising funds for the nonprofit civic engagement organization HeadCount.

In keeping with HeadCount’s mission of “inspiring participation in democracy through the power of music,” HeadCount and the Mock Show organizers are planning several activities to make the Mock Show a true celebration of democracy. The first starts now, as HeadCount.org hosts a “Mock Election” to select the best Phish-inspired poster art of 2009. Voting begins today at http://www.headcount.org/mockshow.asp and results will be announced at the Mock Show. Winners in each category will be presented the coveted “Golden Tube.”

Artists with multiple nominations – all of whom will have their wares on display at the Mock Show – include Jim Pollock (PollockPrints), A.J Masthay, Ryan Kerrigan, Isadora Bullock, and Justin Helton (Status Serigraph). Categories include “Best Official Phish Print,” “Best b Print,” and in a special nod to HeadCount’s mission, “Best Political Art.” HeadCount will also hold balloted voting at the event to recognize the best posters created specifically for the Mock Show and Phish’s New Year’s Eve concerts.

Mock Show: EPIC NYE will encompass nearly the entire 14th floor of Miami’s luxurious EPIC Hotel – located within walking distance of the American Airlines Arena where Phish will perform later that evening. The exhibition begins at 10am and is open until 3pm that afternoon. Tickets are on sale at http://www.amockshow.com/ and include a complimentary commemorative 2010 calendar featuring work from many of the artists featured in the exhibition.

Over 30 exhibitors will display original art created in homage to Phish. Miami-based 101/exhibit Gallery will hold a special showcase of rare Pollock prints and originals. Atlanta-based Jeff Wood (Drowning Creek) will also be displaying his wares at the Mock Show for the first time. Other exhibitors include David Welker, Sei Ray Ho (Us & Them Studio), Fred Hosman (HoscoPress), Tripp (Taboot Art), Ian Millard, Erin Cadigan, Drew Findley, Bruce Horan, Ryan Jerzy, Jon Lamb and Michael Ortiz (Like Minded Productions), and HeadCount Art Director Jamie Huntsman (Bittersweet Creations).

This is the second Mock Show exhibition this year following the inaugural event in Denver, Colorado in August that attracted nearly one thousand art collectors. The event raised over $10,000 for charity, supporting other music-related nonprofits the Mockingbird Foundation and the Waterwheel Foundation. At the upcoming event, HeadCount will receive a portion of proceeds from the sale of the event poster, created by artist David Welker. Welker is most recognized for his Phish album cover art on the 1993 release “Rift.,” which Relix magazine listed as one of the most iconic album covers of all time. HeadCount will also be selling poster tubes and event t-shirts at the show and holding a silent auction for items donated from Relix Magazine, Lava Lite, LLC, Bambu, and Mock Show promoter and professional event photographer Jason Kaczorowski. Plus, Mock Show attendees will be able to conveniently register to vote at the HeadCount table.

The 5th Phish poster convention and 2nd Mock Show will be held December 30th from 10am-3pm at EPIC HOTEL in Miami, Florida. As with other conventions, dozens of artists and exhibitors will be on hand displaying some unique prints both old and new, as well as donate to great fan-based charities.

Having attended the first two conventions as a fan and taken part in the last two as a charitable organization (as PhanArt nets profits for Mockingbird Foundation through sales of PhanArt and other lot art), I have to say these are MUST SEE and MUST ATTEND events for even the casual observer of lot art.  Some AMAZING art is found here. The Poster show in Miami on 12/30/03 was the show that got me hooked on the lot art, and it’s been a great ride ever since.  In fact, it’s fair to say that these poster-conventions were the early catalyst for PhanArt: The Art of the Fans of Phish!

Of the artists listed above, there are several official Phish artists including Jim Pollock, David Welker, Jeff Wood, Justin Helton and Sei Rey Ho of Us & Them Studio.  This is Ho’s and Wood’s first Mock Shows, joining a crop of artists who have taken part in many, if not all poster shows dating back to 1/3/03 in Hampton, VA.

PhanArtists such as Ryan Kerrigan, Tripp, AJ Masthay, Isadora Bullock, Fred Hosman of HoscoPress, Bruce Horan, Erin Cadigan, Uncle & Aunt Ebeneezer, Noah Phence, Ryan Jerzy, Jamie Huntsman, Vince Naro, and Franky Scaglione will have their art on display, as will Michael Ortiz & Jon Lamb of LikeMindedProductions, Ian Millard and Drew Findley of Subject Matter Studios.
