Update: The winners of the contest are…… Nicholas Stock, for his tale post Big Cypress. ‘My favorite Phish NYE memory was at Big Cypress. As we were leaving after the almost 8 hour set. A large group got to a T in the road and asked, “Where do we go now?” She was referring to how she got back to her camp but I heard it as WHERE DO WE GO NOW? A booming question for the rest of my life. I’m still trying to answer it.’. Bryon Wooten is the runner up with “Favorite nye moment was the return of the hotdog phish rode in on 12/31/10 tossing out meatsticks while the stage was filled with people singing the same. #occupymsg”
Ben Whitesell’s last print for 2011 captures the iconic image of New York City, The Empire State Building in a vivid graphic while highlighting the lyrics to Simple in the process. You can read a great amount of detail on Ben’s blog. The poster is printed on 100% cotton rag Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper (a nice heavy textured paper) using Epson archival inks and measures 13″ x 19″. The poster is a limited edition of 20, signed and numbered by the artist and costs $20 plus s+h. Pick one up at Moving the Merch
Isadora Bullock’s New Years Eve Poster “Wilson’s Jewel” is a hand printed linocut on stonehendge paper in a limited edition of 125 and measures 15 x 22 in.
The print will be on sale outside the shows at MSG for $25 and also available here on PhanArt for $30 plus $10 shipping and handling.
Phish is coming back to New York City to ring in (yet) another new year with another spectacular four-night run at the legendary Madison Square Garden. As the shows approach quickly, I am happy to introduce my newest screen print to celebrate the hoopla and hysteria of the main events.
The Garden is home to some of the most illustrious fights in boxing history, and I wanted to create a parallel to the nine-rounds of Phish looming to close 2011 and welcome 2012. Punch You In The NYE is a salute to the late great Joe Frazier and the monumental Fight Of The Century with Muhammad Ali in 1971 at none other than, Madison Square Garden in New York, NY.
PYITN is a limited edition screen print run of 125 on archival 100lb Royal Complements Haute Red paper (18″ x 24″), all signed and numbered. Please contact me if you are interested in pre-ordering a print. I’ll take requests for numbers on a first come-first serve basis, and will ship pre-orders BEFORE I leave for New York (until December 20). Orders placed after December 20 will ship on January 5. Price is $35 including shipping/handling, reinforced postertube, etc. to anywhere in the US/Canada. Prints will be available for $25 on the streets of Manhattan, circling the Garden each of the four nights as well.
In collaboration with Phro at Taboot Art, I am pleased to announce my first foray into Phish fan posters. Based on a solid concept from my good friend Phro, I created this poster around his cuckoo clock theme. This one had a great deal of back and forth until we hammered out the final image. I can easily say this is the most work I have put into a design before. The final image ended up turning out great.
The poster will be a 10 x 18 size, and at the time of this pre-order post, should be at least 8 colors (the colors represented here will be as close as possible, but as with any printing process, there will be some room for adjustment). The design will be screen printed on 100 stock water color paper. The posters will be shipped via a Uline poster tube, wrapped in artists paper, and will go out Priority Mail. There will only be 200 of this run.
The pre-order features a discounted price of 20 dollars, plus 10 dollars shipping (reg price will be 25 plus shipping). This pre-order will end on Wednesday, November 30th.
Please send $30 for each poster you would like (pre-order price and shipping) to jeff@tabootart.com with JIGGS/PHRO NYE POSTER in the subject, or email him directly at the email address listed.
The rapture is upon us!
Okay, maybe not, but new years at MSG is pretty close to the rapture for many fans…. This years edition marks a first for Masthay Studios, yup it’s a quadtych. Four individual prints that when combined create one large image. New years prints are somewhat of a tradition for me, going all the way back to the 2002 hiatus return at MSG. Last year, I documented the printing process of the MSG triptych on a thread on phishposters.com – so why not continue that tradition and document the quads!
I’ll be regularly updating the new Masthay Studios Blog with photos and commentary on the printing process along with a wonderful introduction by Mr. Miner of Mr. Miner’s Phish Thoughts. For those that decide to purchase the set, you’ll be able to follow along and literally watch your prints being made from start to finish. Looking for more dirt on this edition? Mr. Miner asked me a few questions about my creation process, the interview is up now on PhishThoughts.com.
Now I hope you’re asking, “How do I purchase these wonderful prints?”. Well, I’ll tell you…
These eight color linoleum block prints are from an edition of 150 sets and are printed on archival quality Canson Edition paper stock. All prints will be available on MasthayStudios.com this Friday, November 18th, at 12 noon EST.
If you happen to be traveling to the City for the shows, please join myself and Mr. Miner for two very special events on December 29th. The first is a book signing and the second is an aftershow party. Both are taking place at The Irish Times – 254 W 31st St. (b/w 7th and 8th Ave), less than 1 block from MSG!
The Book Signing: 4 pm – 6 pm
The Afterparty w/ Coltrane and Friends: Post-show – 3 am – FREE! View more details…
As always feel free to email me atinfo@masthaystudios.com with any questions, concerns, comments, etc. See ya at MSG!
*Please note, the above image is of the preliminary sketches for the prints. Production of the final prints is currently underway and can be followed in my blog. While the sketches are a close approximation, the final prints will have differences in appearance and color to what is show above. I estimate having all prints shipped out prior to the new year’s shows.
I love beer. So when a great organization like Screens & Suds asks if I’d be willing to create a beer related print for their fundraiser, it’s a no-brainer. This one goes out to all the artists who prefer to use hops and barley as their inks, and clean, crisp water as their canvas – to the BrewMasters!
These five color linoleum block prints are from an edition of 120 and are printed on archival quality Canson Edition paper stock. A portion of the edition has already sold out at last weekend’s Screens and Suds event in Virginia. My allotment of prints will be available on MasthayStudios.com this Wednesday, November 9th, at 12 noon EST. Is it too early to mention what a great holiday gift these would make?… Yes, yes it is, but I said it anyway didn’t I… As always feel free to email me at info@masthaystudios.com with any questions, concerns, comments, etc. Oh and by the way, I have begun work on my first ever quadtych (4 prints that work together to form a giant freakin image). I’ll let you guess what event its for….. stay tuned for more info!
TRiPP has some great new pins available for this fall. Included below are The 11, Starry Stealie, China Cat Sunflower, Big Wooly Mammoth and Autumn Stealie pins. These five pins are available in a matching number set or can be purchase individually. All pins are engraved with Tripp’s signature, the King Pin logo, and the # each is in the edition.
A set of all 5 pins is available now here, with matching numbers in each set.
TRiPP is also continuing his State Print Series with his second release of 50 prints for each state in the USA. TRiPPs Prints has released the first three states in the State Print series: Georgia, Missouri, and California. The State Print series will include a single print for each of the 50 United States. Each state was picked at random from a jar. They are being released in the order in which they were chosen. Every print illustrates a natural attraction within the state. The name and outline of the state, as well as the number each was admitted into the union of the United States of America, are also displayed on every print. The second release coming in just a few days includes Connecticut, Michigan, and North Carolina. Only 50 of each state are being printed, with only 35 being available for purchase. All fifty states will be released by the end of 2011.
Right now, Missouri, Georgia and California are available while currently in production are Connecticut, North Carolina and Michigan. Get a sneak peak at them and the next states on deck here. The latest three prints will be available starting next week.
Ryan Kerrigan whipped up a print for the Vermont show this Wednesday in Essex, VT. This print is of an edition of 55 and cost $10 each. Ryan is making the trek from California for this show, so look for him selling his poster on lot!
