AJ Masthay NYE MSG presale information

A holiday pre-sale message from AJ Masthay

Hard to believe it’s already December 1st and the short holiday run is literally right around the corner. I’ve been incredibly busy in the studio working on a very exciting set of prints for the Umphrey’s McGee New Years run at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago. UM currently has a presale going on for the sets and released the image to the right, but Ill also have a small allotment of prints available after New Years. I’ll be wrapping up these sets early next week and will be turning my attention to MSG.

Surprise, surprise – it’s a triptych, but I think it’s a pretty kick-ass one if I do say so myself. Whenever I think of New Years I think back to my first two shows, 12/29/93 and 12/31/93the fish tank stage (yes, I skipped 12/30 = EPIC FAIL). These images are highly influenced by the memories of day-glow fish and giant clams, I also wondered what it would look like if MSG had sunk to the bottom of the ocean, black smokers spewing clouds of silt and tube worms taking over the 300 and 400 sections.

Anyway, check it out yourself on my store page where I have links to detailed photos of the sketches. These will be 7 color linoleum block prints in an edition of 111 on Canson edition antique white paper stock. A special presale will begin this Friday, December 3, 2010 at 12 Noon EST on my website. During the presale I’ll be including insured shipping in the cost of $100 per set. These prints will be completed and shipped prior to Christmas.

AJ Masthay Fall Prints Collection

From AJ Masthay: Hello and happy fall from Masthay Studios! With fall tour right around the corner, it’s time to start releasing some individual prints! I’ve been working hard to put together what I feel is one of my strongest sets of editions yet, I hope you’ll agree. Here’s the plan, The Augusta, Providence and Amherst prints will be available on my website Wednesday, October 6th (week from today) at 12 noon EST. The Halloween Triptychs will be available the next day, Thursday October 7th at 12 noon EST. Editions for each run are small with only 66 sets of the Halloween prints and 75 for each of the others. Prints are my standard size, approx. 14″ x 23″, and all are on Canson Edition Bright White paper stock. Larger images along with details on each print are available on my website, www.masthaystudios.com. All posters cost $35 while the Triptych costs $100 As always feel free to email me at info@masthaystudios.com with any questions, concerns, comments, etc. I hope to see you at some of the north east shows, and I hope you all have a safe tour. AJ Masthay Fall Poster Subscriptions

From AJ Masthay: www.masthaystudios.com

Update: Poster for 10/29 revealed!

Who’s up for an old school Northeast run? I am.. I am…!!! Providence, Mullins Center, Atlantic City!?! yeah, count me in. I know, everyone says we’re spoiled in the northeast, well… I agree. Think of it this way, it’s a wonderful excuse to come see the beautiful foliage.

I digress, so I’ve been getting alot of questions about whether or not Ill be doing another mini-subscription for this tour. The answer my friends is YES. I think the 2nd leg summer sub worked out very for all those involved. Once images were released I got many emails from happy sub holders who were thankful they didnt have to worry about onsale dates and times.

So this time around the subscriptions will include a minimum of 6 prints. Currently slated are Amherst, Providence, Augusta and a special triptych for the Halloween shows, but these are up for debate and may change (okay Halloweens are already completed so they wont change… a little tease of the 29th is pictured above). If you are a fan of my work, especially past Halloween editions, I guarantee you will not want to miss out on these. All subscriptions will have matching numbers and specific number requests will be honored if available. I will be offering only 20 subscriptions for this leg with a limit of 2 subs per person.

Cost for each subscription is $200 which equates to a $5 discount on the cost of the prints themselves and I’ll cover insured priority mail shipping. All prints will be shipped together once the final edition is completed.

Subscriptions will be available this Friday, September 17th at 12 noon EST. A paypal button will appear on www.masthaystudios.com/subscription

As always feel free to email me at info@masthaystudios.com with any questions, concerns, comments, etc.

Alpine Valley prints and more from AJ Masthay

From AJ Masthay:

Hi all, and happy pre second leg of summer tour! Cant wait to hit the road next week and head out west for some epic venues. These will be my last releases for this summer, and Im very excited about each.

I was asked by Widespread Panic to create a piece for their Knoxville, TN shows that are just wrapping up tonight. The inspiration is the theatre itself with its elegant and ornate decorations and absolutely stunning ceiling medallion. These are 6 color linoleum block prints on Canson Edition paper stock. Photos dont do this one justice, they almost glow from the intense blues against the earth tones. I have a small allotment from the edition of 375 and they will be available on my website,  www.masthaystudios.com, Thursday July 29 at 12 noon EST.

Finally, my last installment for the second leg of summer tour, what I am affectionately calling “Giant Alpine Valley Horns“. This is also a 6 color linoleum block print but is on Rives Heavyweight paper stock, edition of 75. Imagery is fairly self explanatory, you can almost hear the “Ricola-a-a-a” or the wonderful theme to the Cliffhangers Price is Right game in the background. These also will be available at www.masthaystudios.com Thursday July 29 at 12 noon EST.

AJ Masthay UM/Galactic Red Rocks Print Release

From PhanArtist AJ Masthay:

So I mentioned in my last newsletter that I was working on my largest edition ever. Well, here it is! I was honored to be asked by the folks at Umphrey’s McGee and Galactic to create the prints for their gig this past weekend at Red Rocks, their first time headlining this incredibly historic venue.

The edition of 600 prints is a 5 color linoleum block print on white Stonehenge paper stock. I have a very small allotment of prints that will be available through my website today, Tuesday July 6 at 12 noon EST. On another note, I will be taking part in an upcoming art show based out of Berkeley, CA, entitled GREEK ART. If you’re heading out for the Phish shows, stop by the Vintage Berkeley gallery/wine shop August 7th from noon – 2pm for the opening reception.

Hope you had a happy and safe 4th of July weekend. See you on the second leg of summer tour! AJ

42 Degrees and PhanArt Poster show was a great success!

Thank you to all who came to the 42 Degrees and PhanArt present The Art of the Fans of Phish poster show on June 20th before the Sunday SPAC show. It was a great success with nearly 200 attendees, 20 artists, dozens of pieces of art available and some of the best glass in the Northeast. On behalf of everyone at 42 Degrees – Jon, Robin and Mike, and PhanArt Pete, we thank everyone for attending!

As long as Phish keeps playing SPAC, we hope to continue to make this a tradition for years to come!

Some pictures from the event

SPAC and Summercamp posters from AJ Masthay

From AJ Masthay: Hi all, and happy post-Memorial Day Weekend to you, back to the grind, ugh…. Well, there is light at the end of that tunnel, summer tour is literally right around the corner!

I just got back yesterday from a spectacular weekend in Chillicothe, IL at this years Summercamp. I had an absolute blast seeing everyone, hearing some great music, and of course slinging some prints. A big thank you to Jason Kaczorowski and all involved in the Mock Camp exhibition.

Okay, enough about my love of SPAC…. I’ve also added the few Summercamp prints that I brought back from this weekend to my site. If you haven’t had a chance, check out the new process page I put together which chronicles the creation of this print from start to finish. This is basically the same process I use for all my work and gives a good insight into linoleum block printing.

You can see more of AJ’s work at the 42′ and PhanArt Poster show: The Art of the Fans of Phish on June 20th from 11am-3pm at 42′ Art Gallery in Glens Falls, a short 15 minute drive from Saratoga. See more info here

Both are available now on my site www.masthaystudios.com.Please feel free to contact me at aj@masthaystudios with any questions. Hope you enjoy and I’ll see ya on tour!
