AJ Masthay Screens and Suds poster “Brew Master” on sale NOW

From AJ Masthay:

I love beer. So when a great organization like Screens & Suds asks if I’d be willing to create a beer related print for their fundraiser, it’s a no-brainer. This one goes out to all the artists who prefer to use hops and barley as their inks, and clean, crisp water as their canvas – to the BrewMasters!

These five color linoleum block prints are from an edition of 120 and are printed on archival quality Canson Edition paper stock. A portion of the edition has already sold out at last weekend’s Screens and Suds event in Virginia. My allotment of prints will be available on MasthayStudios.com this Wednesday, November 9th, at 12 noon EST. Is it too early to mention what a great holiday gift these would make?… Yes, yes it is, but I said it anyway didn’t I… As always feel free to email me at info@masthaystudios.com with any questions, concerns, comments, etc. Oh and by the way, I have begun work on my first ever quadtych (4 prints that work together to form a giant freakin image). I’ll let you guess what event its for….. stay tuned for more info!

Masthay Tahoe Poster on sale this Friday at Noon

From AJ Masthay and available at Noon on Friday 7/29 comes his Lake Tahoe Poster

“God it was a scorcher here in the Northeast this past weekend. Unfortunately the studio, AKA The Sweatbox, is not air conditioned. Maybe it was a mix of the heat, dehydration and ink fumes, but something “clicked” on this image and I truly feel its one of my most detailed and cohesive prints to date.”

Lake Tahoe, NV

“Not to toot my own horn, but this thing is just badass… Digging back into the wild west history of Lake Tahoe for this one, we’re talking the days of outlaws, sheriffs, and smoking peacemakers. It may not look it in the photos, but these prints are six colors – some extremely subtle, and boy do they pop in person.”

“As promised, the Tahoe edition will go onsale Friday July 29nd at 12 noon EST.  Things are looking very good for at least one more edition for the second leg, I’ll be sure to keep you posted. Feel free to get in touch with me at aj@masthaystudios with any questions and Ill see ya in Hollywood! AJ”

AJ Masthay’s Gorge Poster

From AJ Masthay, his Gorge print and info on his Tahoe print, due out next week.

Here we go folks, time to start releasing some 2nd leg prints! First up, a little ditty for the infamous GORGE. A special theme for all the tapers out there, (who remembers the days of trading Maxell XLII’s?). Seriously though, in this day and age of SBD instant gratification, it’s easy to forget that it is the tapers that built so much of the scene we all cherish. To all the tapers, THANK YOU, please keep doing what you do.

Watkins Glen print from AJ Masthay to be revealed on lot…

From AJ Masthay:

Happy Summer Solstice everyone!

With SuperBall just a few weeks away I’ve been getting inquiries about whether or not I’ll be doing anything for it. Short answer, yes. Actually, Ill be doing three prints, but not a triptych, instead Ill have a single large print along with two “mini-prints”. All three will be available separately, although there will be a nice discount for buying the three together.

I know, you’re saying “Great AJ, that’s all well and good, but this email is useless with pictures!” Well, for the first time in a long long time, I will be selling these prints exclusively in the lots. Yup, going old school, no sneak peeks, no internet sales, no paypal. (Okay, if anything is left over they’ll go up on the website, but only if there are leftovers…) Glen Close camping will be the home base for us at SBIX, but Ill be venturing out with my wares and will likely end up wherever Shakedown is. So long as I get a cell signal, Ill be tweeting/facebooking my location to help folks find me if they are so inclined. Be sure to follow/friend me if you’d like to get updates.

Bethel tryptych from AJ Masthay

The long-awaited release from AJ Masthay of his Bethel tryptych is finally here, and as AJ puts it, there is no “hippy dippy bullcrap, just straight up alien abductions. Lets face it, crazy stuff happens in old cow pastures at night, they proved it in 1969 and we’ll prove it again in 2011.”

This print is a 7 color linoleum block print set Signed and Numbered in a limited edition of 125 printed on Canson Edition antique white paper stock. Prints will be available for purchase this Thursday, May 5, 2011 at precisely 12 Noon EST at masthaystudios.com

If you want to grab them now, I have an extremely limited number of subscriptions available which include this set along with upcoming prints for PNC, Alpharetta and Portsmouth. More info is on AJ’s subscription page.

PhanArt’s Best of 2010

2010 has been an amazing year for PhanArt on the lot and on the web. More and more art is being made by a larger number of fans, due to Phish’s return to full touring, more fans looking to share their creativity and the influence of the band in their lives, as well as a way to make it from show A to show B.

While we do not favor any art on the blog above any other art, this is the time of year when we share the Top fan creations of 2010 based on comments, reaction from phans at shows and online, as well as the creativity the artist put into the work. All PhanArt made in the last year has been amazing, and we think the following are some of the best.

This year we have 11, since we are ready to say hello to 2011

#10 Deer Creek Friday the 13th by lotlifestyle.com

These posters were seen briefly online before a last-minute trip out to Deer Creek, and we spotted them after night 1. We picked up a couple for ourselves and the good folks at lotlifestyle.com got in touch with us. Friday the 13th doesnt happen on tour very often so this creative effort is worth noting for its rarity and simplicity

#9 Isadora Bullock Deer Creek

This deer haunts our dreams. Now it haunts yours. Merry Phishmas!

#8 Ryan Kerrigan Broomfield

Brooms in a field. Simple and done well. Classic Kerrigan.

#7 Hartford Whalers/Wilson shirt

Combine the greatest defunct hockey team with Phish and you get this shirt. The weird thing: we never found out who was selling these on tour this summer. If you know who sold them, get them in touch with us!

#6 Bruce Horan’s SPAM SPAC

A street art feel and a play on words leads to a simple print that is anything but simple. Horan’s dedication to the craft is seen in the level of detail in this print.

#5 Eric Weber’s ‘Phreedom’

A great font + the most iconic of NYC images + Phish = Phreedom. An amazing senior project and entry into the world of PhanArt

#4 Brother shirt by UnoClay

Available ONLY on lot, UnoClay went all Nintendoo on us, coming up with a unique shirt (the back has the ? block and says ‘somebody’) that has detail worked into it. For fall he one upped himself – Birds of a Feather and Duck Hunt. Just when you thought shirt ideas were limited to corporate logos, along come games. Who’s making Call of Duty/Kill Devil Falls?

#3 AJ Masthay MSG

Not just one but THREE posters all sharing part of an aquarium. The first poster – the 30th comes on fierce as usual; the second – the 31st shows the ball dropping; the third – the 1st, is serene, as we will all be in recovery mode and asked to dance one more time to start the new year and decade.

#2 Lizzy Layne’s Fuck Your Face

A picture is worth a thousand words. Lizzy’s Holiday Run print has 3 words, so 3 x 1000 = 3000 words. Therefore, this poster is worth 3000 words AND tells you what to do with your face. Appropriate for work, home or the RV heading to the show.

and the #1 piece of PhanArt in 2010 is…………………..

#1 Vinny Naro’s Halloween Poster

Drawing by hand is one thing. Nearly everyone can do that. Drawing in pen and ink in extreme detail, and using nothing else in the process is painstakingly hard and takes a level of commitment that is rarely seen anywhere. Vinny Naro’s Atlantic City print is remarkable in its detail – the three clocks show 10:29, 10:30 and 10:31, respectively. The pipe organ is drawn to resemble the original that is housed in Boardwalk Hall (but in need of repairs, hence not being used that weekend). Satan is playing the pipe organ with his own devilish tune, and the designs throughout exhibit precision towards each facet of his work. Referring to this as a work of art is an understatement. We got this framed right after the shows.
