Lot Gear for the Youngest Phans – You Enjoy Me Clothing

As Phish fans get older, we wind up settling down, getting married, and start making babies.  As surprising as not-surprising, Phish fans have started marketing lot goods to parents of future Phish fans.

Created by Dave Ginsberg, a 170+ show veteran who just welcomed his first child into the world recently, the collection of Baby clothes seen below can be put on onesies and toddler t’s.

Dave and his wife Dana got the idea from buying every onesie from drygoods for our 3 nieces over the years.  They thought ‘Why not create some lot style onesies we’d buy ourselves?’  Together, Dave and Dana came up with over 30 designs, with Dave personal fave ” I came from my daddy’s BBJ”, as it is only for hardcore fans and worth the reaction when someone gets it.

They made a small trial batch for Hampton of four original designs: ‘You Enjoy Me’, ‘I love to take a bath’, ‘I sleep diagonal in my crib’, and ‘Fishman’s my daddy’. They were gone before they even left the hotel. Over the summer Dave sold 100+ over just a few shows. More designs were printed for summer tour and even more for this coming fall tour.

Dave and Dana recently welcomed their 1st child into this world…Luke Phisher Ginsberg. You can expect to see him as feature model of youenjoyme, and we encourage fans to post pics of your little ones in YouEnjoyMe gear!

The cost for each of these 1 for $15, 2 for $25, with $5 shipping on all orders.

Visit www.youenjoyme.com to pick one up – $15 for each shirt/onesie.  Make sure you specify what the order is for!

PhanArtist Profile: Keith ‘Scramble’ Campbell

You have probably seen Scramble at a show live painting. It could have been a Phish show, New Orleans Jazz Fest, Bonnaroo, a String Cheese show, or pretty much anything that in the gamut of live music performances.  Keith ‘Scramble’ Campbell has been making live art for more than 20 years now, and has become one of the most well known artists in the jamband community, as well as the festival circuit and live music scene.

My first interaction with Scramble was at Trey Anastasio Band at Red Rocks, 7/17/01.  With beer in hand and in stomach, I wandered over to the left side of the stage and saw on an easily accessible ledge, this long-haired guy painting quickly, and seemingly to and with the music. The speed at which Scramble painted, and the finished product that was slowly coming to view was remarkable and my first foray into the world of live art, and subsequently, fan art.

For over a decade Scramble has captured live energy and created visual documentation of over 500 musicians.  His word varies in content from the things he started painting when he first began to what his goals are in the future. Each painting is an improvisational attempt to capture the same energy and spirit being shared by the musicians and crowd. He dances and spreads the paints onto the canvas with his bare hands and brushes.

Erin Cadigan: PhanArtist and Fashion Designer for the masses

This week’s PhanArtist is Erin Cadigan. Erin is a fashion designer and poster artists living in Brooklyn with her husband (who is also one of her best friends from tour) Martin.

Three - Posters and Shirts by Erin Cadigan
Three - Posters and Shirts by Erin Cadigan

Erin grew up in New Jersey where she saw her first Greatful Dead show in 1988. Over the next few years she was introduced to Phish and saw them for the first time in 1992. In 1994, a life long dream of driving across the country was fufilled. Living in her van, sleeping in squats, long drives to unknown destinations, jumping on Dead tour and catching some Phish shows; for her, nothing could have been better! The next summer she did it all over again and started to tour in earnest after graduating with a BFA in Illustration in 1996. Erin continued to tour and sell her shirts and posters up till the last shows in ’04, and was involved with PhanArt: The Art of the Fans of Phish since shortly after its inception, and has taken part in multiple poster shows and can always be seen on the lot selling her work.

She is very grateful to all who supported her work over the years, and made the last 15 years the most extrodinary experience of her life.

Erin has recently hit the 300 show mark, which we have to give HUGE kudos to. Very impressive Erin!

John Street Graphics: THE fan business for printing lot-shirts

The first in our series of fan-businesses profiles John Street Graphics, hands down the best place to get your lot shirts made for a solid price. Based in Matthews, NC, and run by Kyle Donaghy, of moe.’s ‘Kyle’s Song’ fame, John Street Graphics specializes in screenprinting and embroidery.

A little background on John Street (johnstreet.net)

John Street Graphics was started in 1991 in the town of Matthews, North Carloina by Kyle Donaghy. Their history with lot shirts goes back to the early 90’s when they would go to Grateful Dead shows and sell tees to pay for road trips. Kyle and his friends sold shirts, following the Dead up and down the east coast for 5 years or so. Their most famous Dead tee being the green Charlotte Dead shirt they had on the lot in the spring of 1995, and the Spring Tripping Atlanta shirt from 1994.
Around ’94 Kyle, his brother Ryan and friend Chris Pettyjohnstarted seeing Phish, but didn’t make any lot shirts until the Raleigh show in Summer 95. Their first successful shirt was the YEM/STP shirt that debuted at the Clifford Ball shows

Kyle put a custom design on the back for the shows, which became the tradition from then on. It was then that they met up with Tripp Shealy, who had his own cool tee he sold featuring some of his early ‘now famous’ art.

John Street tees have been at a lot of great Phish shows over the years. The Clifford Ball, ’96 & ’98 Halloween shows, the Lemonwheel, Big Cypress, and Coventry. At almost any given time between New Years Run 1996 and Coventry, you could find Ryan or Chris selling John Street originals. “Lot Poster King” Tripp Shealy even learned how to print and worked at John Street!

John Street and Kyle are a significant part of the Phish Community, with Kyle noting “One of the greatest feelings in the world is to see one of your creations on someone in Colorado, or Washington State, or wherever! Thank you to all of you who have supported our love of touring and music through the years, we could not have done it without you! See you soon.”

What has John Street made you ask? Why only some of the most iconic Phish lot shirts seen in the past decade+.

Just to name a few:
Sneakin Sally Nut Bag Ale
Piper/PBR
Icculus/Adidas
Reba/Bass
YEM/STP
Llama/Camel
Bug/Mug Root Beer
I Survived Hiatus
and so many more….
(images coming soon)

You may have seen John Street Graphics next to the Merch tent at any moe.down in the last decade – they make and sell a great deal of moe. products as well.

Having used John Street for lot shirts for sometime now, I can say for the first time that John Street is an official ‘PhanArt Recommended, PhanArt Approved’ fan-business.

Check them out at Johnstreet.net or email Kyle at info@johnstreet.net
